Growing up I always had a hard time eating. I never knew why. I would choke on things and wonder why I couldn't eat like everyone else. Little did I know that things would get worse. This was only the beginning.
My first experience was choking on a hotdog. We had to call 911 and everything. I was, oddly enough, still breathing but I couldn't swallow my spit and every time I would try to drink water or swallow my spit I would gag and my body would try to throw up. The food felt stuck very deep down my esophagus, in my chest. The paramedics arrived just after I was able to get the hotdog down. I didn't think there was anything wrong with me, maybe it was just a fluke. I think I was in high school at this point in my life. Years later things got worse. I was in my 20's and started choking on everything. I went to a gastroenterologist near me and they tried to do an endoscopy. They were not able to complete the procedure because the camera wouldn't fit down my esophagus. That's when I knew something was not right. They recommended I get my esophagus stretched. Yes, you read right, they can actually do that. I can't say I recommend it though unless you do other testing first. For me, it was just a waste of time and money. The day after I had that procedure I thought it was amazing how easy I could eat things. Just a few days later I started struggling again trying to get food down. I wasn't choking everyday like before but it was still an issue. At some point I had an allergy test, just the simple blood test. The results said I had allergies to wheat, dairy, and other things as well. I didn't really believe it at first, I was in denial for a long time. I remember the moment when things changed. Years later, I was at a week long event and was eating bagels and cream cheese every morning, one of my favorite breakfasts. I started choking on a very small piece of bagel. I asked my wife to get my chewable allergy medication I had in my bag. The children's chewable type medicine was the only type that can dissolve in my mouth without me having to swallow anything. The instant it started to dissolve in my mouth and squeeze down my esophagus, I felt my throat open. The food went down. At that moment I knew that, yes, it was an allergy. I started cutting out different things in my life according to the allergy test results. Starting with gluten and wheat I started modifying my diet. I noticed a difference very quickly. Once I removed gluten/wheat and dairy I finally started to not choke on things. Sometimes I would let small things slide like some cheese in my mashed potatoes or something like that. However, later in the night I would normally regret it because I would wake up choking on my spit and need to take allergy medication. Eventually, I was able to follow my new diet more closely and it has been like night and day. What a relief! I wanted to write this blog post because I know other people suffer from the same thing and don't understand what it is either. I just wanted to share my story to help others. You are not alone, there is help out there. I am not completely sure if it is just the processed food and non-organic food out here in Southern California, or if it is truly just an allergy. I do remember drinking organic whole milk and noticing a difference. I just have not been brave enough to try a bunch of organic food to see if I choke or not. It is not a feeling that I want to repeat. So, I want to share some things that I have learned that help me not feel so deprived: My allergies are wheat and gluten, dairy, soy, nuts and legumes. Some things that I eat that make me not feel so deprived are... Breakfast: Eggs - scrambled, over easy, poached or hard boiled for a quick breakfast (Use bacon grease instead of butter, it comes in a jar now) Toast - Costco has the best gluten-free bread that when toasted actually doesn't taste so bad. Bacon - I buy bacon in bulk from Costco and microwave 4 slices for 1 minute Lunch: Taco - I can eat a taco from Sharky's Woodfired Mexican Grill since at the location near my work they use non-gmo corn tortillas, organic steak and cilantro and onions. I add some of their salsa along with their free chips and have an awesome lunch for just over five bucks. Dinner: Daiya Pizza (https://daiyafoods.com) and other meals with my own additional toppings. Gluten free chicken nuggets Potatoes - make my own fries, baked potatoes or other ways of making a potato. Salad with Daiya Ranch Dressing In-n-Out meat patties with grilled onions on top with french fries and a drink (Their fries are fresh so I don't have a problem eating them like I do at McDonald's or other places) There are other things that I can eat too, what do you eat? With the Cash App available in the App Store you can easily buy and sell Bitcoin stock with just a few dollars and with a reliable company called Square, Inc. If you use this invitation code you will get a free $5 to start after you send your first $5 to someone. Just send someone gas money one time and it’s like free money. PMDJNFD cash.me/app/PMDJNFD Once you have the app and got your $5 you can invest it right away in bitcoin. Within a few minutes you will start to see it fluctuate. At the moment Bitcoin is at a huge low. It could be a good time to buy. The market is volatile though so don’t invest anything you aren’t willing to lose. I just invested the $5 that was free and I added an extra $20 myself. That was just yesterday. Now I already have seen it go up to $28 and back down to about $27 right now. Have fun fun investing in Bitcoin. Finally a pretty safe way of investing in Bitcoin without knowing about wallets or anything about the dark web. :) Enjoy! Robinhood, not just a guy in the forest running around with his merry men stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. It’s actually a legitimate online firm that allows you to buy and sell stocks for free! This has been great for me since I am still getting my feet wet with stocks. There is no minimum and there are no fees when buying and selling. It’s amazing! I have always wanted to get into the stock market. Now, finally a way to do it for the layman like myself. Just remember, don’t invest money that you aren’t willing to lose. The market is constantly changing. From my limited experience in the stock market I find it best to find a company that I like, wait for it to take a dip and then buy the stock. I also tend to hold on to the stock for a while. I’m not good at knowing when to buy and sell so keeping it in for a while is important for me to not lose money. The stock market for me is better than my savings account and a lot better than my HYS account that I have as well. I can take it out when I want, just takes a few days to transfer to my bank. It helps when money is not immediately available but still there for emergencies. To me, it is better than my 401k too. If you want a free stock use my code, we both get a free stock when you sign up. Win win situation. :) Enjoy! http://share.robinhood.com/jasonk21 Our Christian Life and Ministry Scheduler ONLINE for ANY language. Emergency responders cannot readily access your phone if you have your screen locked. Here is a way that Apple lets you access your Medical ID from the lock screen for emergencies. I always searched for the best shared groceries app where my wife and I can both add to the list and see the current list when going to the grocery store. So I stumbled across this and thought that I would share it with all of you. It's the native Reminders app on the iPhone/iPad. First go to the Reminders app and create a new list that you want to share. Click edit on the top right. Click Sharing Click Add Person Then type in who you want to share the list with. There you go. Have fun and now you can delete all those other To Do List apps that take up space on your iDevice. Keeping it Simple. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks. Don't forget to follow us to get more great ideas. Here is the best drawing app for artists hands down. It just had a great update and my wife was telling me also that it is now free. It used to cost money and it was worth the price then. Now being free, everyone can benefit from it. The intuitive design of the gestures to navigate the app is amazing. Like undo is a two finger circle rotation that makes me feel like I'm rewinding a tape. Pinching to close the book and also multi-touch functions so I can rip out a page in one book, close the book, and add it into another book without taking my fingers off the screen. The different tools that it comes with makes for a great art app. The pen is my favorite. It makes anything I draw look amazing. If you notice in this picture you will see some of the new tools in the update. These are very handy indeed. Check it out! Only on the iPad. It really wouldn't be useful on the phone anyways. :) This app is great for taking notes, writing on PDFs and signing documents. It also backs-up directly to Box, Dropbox or iCloud. This is worth the couple of dollars to spend on it. I don't normally buy apps and I actually got this one when it was free too. But with Family Share I was able to share it with my wife too. We both have benefited from it so much already. One of the new features it has now is palm recognition. So when you rest your palm on your iPad it should mess things up. I am still used to the old way and just turned the function off. The app continues to improve itself and allows me to write/draw up outlines for my public speaking discourses too. Prints to PDF and then allows me to swipe the pages in iBooks instead of turn a page while I'm up on stage. Check it out. It's worth it especially if you are in any type of school or taking classes. Write at the bottom of the screen and once you reach the end of it then it automatically skips to the next section. At the end it even acts like an old type writer and skips down to the left side again. Very good for writing more text in the space on each page. You have different tools to choose from. Typing, writing with your finger or stylus, highlighter, eraser and the select tool. The finger just allows you to move the page without messing something up. You can easily draw something, resize it, and move it around to where ever you want. Click the camera button (or plus sign on the iPad) to add a picture into your document. Snap the picture right then or take it from your camera roll. Great when a presenter shows an illustration that you can quickly snap a picture and add it into your notes. Pictures are worth thousands of words. Or you can even quickly surf the Internet to find the picture they are showing and copy it from there. Hope you enjoy my tips for the day.
